On Wednesday, January 7th, Iran launched over a dozen surface to surface missles at multiple United States bases in Iraq. Department of Defense Secretary Mark Esper stated “We are not looking to start a war with Iran, but we are prepared to finish one,” but also added that Washington’s first priority is to deescalate the situation. The missle strikes follow the U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and is believed to be retaliatory.
