In the much anticipated main event match up between champion Jon Jones and challenger Glover Teixeira we saw what odds makers and fans alike anticipated. Jones defended his belt in a 50 to 45 unanimous decision by using his creative striking, different angles, hand control, elbows, takedown defense and ability to control the octagon to deafeat an always game but outclassed Glover Texeira. UFC 172 was stacked from top to bottom and there was even an allstar cameo by former "Baltimore Raven" Ray Lewis.

My predictions for the main event of "UFC 172" as seen here ( http://www.konsume.com/k/story-753 ) were proven wrong as usual, but I'm know fortune teller and if MMA or the UFC had a crystal ball it would be smashed in a matter of seconds.

Here is a breakdown of the results as they stand post fight:

Chris Beal versus Patrick Williams - Chris Beal defeated Patrick Williams via KO (Flying Knee) R2 1:51

Beth Correia versus Jessamyn Duke - Bethe Correia defeated Jessamyn Duke via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) R3 5:00

Takanori Gomi versus Isaac Vallie-Flagg - Takanori Gomi defeated Isaac Vallie-Flagg via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00

Joseph Benavidez versus Tim Elliot - Joseph Benavidez defeated Tim Elliott via Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 4:08

Andre Fili versus Max Holloway - Max Holloway defeated Andre Fili via Submission (Guillotine Choke) R3 3:39

Jim Miller versus Yancy Medeiros - Jim Miller defeated Yancy Medeiros via Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 3:18

Luke Rockhold versus Tim Boetch - Luke Rockhold defeated Tim Boetsch via Submission (Inverted Triangle Kimura) R1 2:08

Phil Davis versus Anthony Johnson - Anthony Johnson defeated Phil Davis via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) R3 5:00

Jon Jones versus Glover Teixeira - Jon Jones defeated Glover Teixeira via Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) R5 5:00

So, while my predictions fell short this "UFC 172" card didn't. There was some unexpected turns in watching Anthony Johnson dominate Phil Davis with powerful striking and exceptional takedown defense for 3 full rounds and seeing Danny Castillo decimate Charlie Brenneman with a monstrously powerful right hand which left Brenneman stiff on the canvas.
Tim Boetch was dispatched far sooner than I thought he would be by Luke Rockhold, who deserves submission of the night (in my opinion) with his inverted triangle kimura submission; and even though I expected Jim Miller to win via submission, I definitely didn't expect to see him put Yancy Medeiros to sleep with a guillotine in the first round. Not to mention a guillotine victory by Max Holloway over Andre Fili in the third round and a guillotine victory for Joseph Benavidez over Tim Elliot late in the 1st round. Jim Miller was definitely right when he said "it's the night of the guillotines."
However, Jon Jones most certainly didn't choke in the main event and even though many expected his win over Teixeira, it was still a colorful action packed, creative and masterful performance by the UFC's light heavyweight champion as he took it to Teixeira for the full 5 rounds and showed his ability to absorb some big shots from the powerful Brazilian in the process.

It was said during the preliminary broadcast of this card that Alexander Gustaffson will be given the rematch against Jones if he wins this fight. I look forward to seeing how the champ fares against Gustaffson in their next meeting. My crystal ball is broken again, so I'll need to put it back together before I make another prediction.
