(DALLAS, TX) – Junior point guard Nic Moore led five Mustang players in double figures, scoring 14 points aided by hitting 3 three pointers to go along with with six assists as the SMU Mustangs (14-4, 5-1 AAC) blew out the East Carolina Pirates 77-54 in front of a capacity crowd at Moody Coliseum on Saturday.

Markus Kennedy added 12 points for the Mustangs and chipped in 6 boards while Ben Moore and Ryan Manuel each contributed 11 points apiece. Sterling Brown chipped in 10 and led the Mustangs by pulling down 7 rebounds.

While the story of the game may have been the Mustangs first appearance without Sophomore guard Keith Frazier due to possible academic issues or the team receiving a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA, the real story was the way they came out hot, almost as if they had a chip on their shoulder and got out to a quick 7-0 lead and never looking back. The team continued their hot shooting throughout the game going on to sink 58.8 percent from the field overall and 35.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Mustangs never trailed in the game.

SMU started off hot in the second half with a 28-10 run and a Ben Moore jumper with 7:14 left gave the Mustangs their biggest lead, 62-32. East Carolina's Terry Whisnant, the game's leading scorer with 24 points, hit four three-pointers while another by Caleb White in the final seven minutes did little to get the Pirates back into the game.

“The bottom line is you just want to see the kids improve” Mustang coach Larry Brown said after the game. “I'm really proud of all of them”

Next up for SMU, the Ponies hit the road again as they face Tulane on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 8:00 p.m. in New Orleans. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
