Imagine Jack Black in the movie School of Rock. Not the silly parts, just the scenes when he is jamming out hardcore to the beat of his own tunes. Add 3 talented, Chicago-oriented rock stars, and you are listening to Meat Wave

This trio has a very unique sound that instantly drew me to them. The guitar riffs and drum rhythms created a combination of wanting to headbang and break it down on the dance floor. The mix between the two can be very risky business when you're trying to get your music out there. These guys nailed it. Having the punk vibe along with the harder rock is wonderful! It draws in a wider audience and allows more people to get a feel for the genre.

Meat Wave has a self-titled album that was recorded in the spring of 2012. You can listen to it here. I recommend earphones to get the full experience. You can imagine yourself standing in a cool, urban venue with a crowd of people getting lost in the beats. The track titled Keep Smoking, the first track on the album, ended up being my favorite. About halfway through the song is a little guitar piece that has a slightly higher sound than the rest of the track. I absolutely love it. It's catchy and classy with a huge dab of awesome. It immediately flows back into the punk rock rhythm, and you're ready to jam out again. This 9-song album was very impressive.

Looking through Meat Wave's Facebook page, I was thrilled to see some really cool album and promo art. The bright colors and abstract ideas fit the style of this band very well. Check it! They've also got details for upcoming shows if you're in the Chicago area, free music downloads, photos, and music videos to keep you connected. And hey, these guys have an option to purchase their music in the form of CASSETTES. As in cassette TAPES. Like 90's style. I'm serious. If that's not cool than I don't want to know what is.

Let's Pretend Records have taken charge of promoting this musical fusion, but I always recommend getting the word out about music you enjoy. If Meat Wave has stolen your heart, whether it's a tiny piece or the whole entire thing, give them some lovin'.

Keep discovering, keep on keeping on, and remember that music makes the world go 'round.
